Fan fiction (alternately referred to as fanfiction, fanfic, FF, or fic) is a broadly-defined term for fan labor regarding stories about characters or settings written by fans of the original work, rather than by the original creator. Works of fan fiction are rarely commissioned or authorized by the original work's owner, creator, or publisher; also, they are almost never professionally published. Fan fiction, therefore, is defined by being both related to its subject's canonical fictional universe and simultaneously existing outside the canon of that universe. Most fan fiction writers assume that their work is read primarily by other fans, and therefore tend to presume that their readers have knowledge of the canon universe (created by a professional writer) in which their works are based.

History

Before about 1965, the term "fan fiction" was used in science fiction fandom to designate original, though amateur, works of science fiction published in science fiction fanzines, as differentiated from fiction that was professionally published by professional writers; or fiction about fans and fandom; but this usage is now obsolete. Modern definitions of the term exclude such entirely original writing from the category. Today, "fan fiction" writers are those who use characters and situations already created by other writers in order to develop their personal and preferred views of the story.

What is it about Fan-fiction that is so popular and addictive ?
Q. I'm 25 now and I have been reading Fan-fiction since I was 15. I keep this fact from my family and friends too. I'm not really worried about what they think, I've just always kept it to myself. I just wanted to know what everyone thoughts were on Fan-fiction. Do you read Fan-fiction? Why do you think it is so popular and addictive? Do you tell your family and friends about the stories you read?

A. I used to read tons of fanfiction but not so much now. I've written a few stories as well but nothing major. I think it's popular and addictive because I mean who wouldn't want to read and write about her favorite (book, film, tv) characters doing exactly what she has always wanted them to do but will never see in the original source? You want a story where Mulder and Scully get abducted and spend a year on an alien planet? There's a fanfic about that. You want to read about Harry Potter becoming a Quidditch coach? There's a fanfic for that. Maybe you want Dr.House and Cuddy to finally hook up . . . oh you better believe there's a fanfic about that. It's fun to read them because you already know all the characters and the history of both… [cont.]

Is there an olympian fan fiction archive anywhere online?
Q. I'm just looking for a site that might have some fan fiction involving olympians.

A. What exactly are you looking for? Here's a community on LiveJournal that has some fan fic involving Olympians. There's also a lot of slash groups out there if you're into that. Those actually seem to be the most popular. I'm not going to post the links here, but if anyone wants them just contact me and I'll pass them on. My friend and I are writing a soap opera type story with Michael Phelps and Ryan Lochte. (Amanda Beard and Alain Bernard are our villains lmao!) If you're interested in reading it, my LiveJournal is Hope this helps a little!

A. Oh! I can recommend anything done by the author 'dontstealmyvitaminies' on fanfiction.net. She does VERY good adaptations of some of Jane Austen's classics. Try 'Sweet Lolita', which would best fit what you're looking for (reaaallly rich, powerful guy - an adaptation of Pride and Prejudice). My favourite is 'The Hill', though (I'm an Emma fan). They're all fantastically written and well planned out. Good luck :)
