How do they make modern cartoons?
Q. I kinda understand how older cartoons were made, hand-drawing each frame, but I don't understand how they make some of these modern-day cartoons. How do they do it?

A. ah.. split framing. they draw one frame, and then maybe the 30th frame, and the computer fills it in with a guess as to what it should look like

How can i learn to draw old Warner bros style cartoons?
Q. I mainly do really detailed, realistic, graphite on paper illustrations. I really want to learn how to make cartoons. I really don't like all that "Anime" stuff. I have always enjoyed warner bros things like bugs Bunny, road runner, and such and i would really like to draw in that style. Anyone know where i could get some tutorials online or from a specific book that can teach beginner to intermediate artists how to do what i have mentioned? Thank you!

A. I am an art student at the Art Institute in Illinois and i am majoring in animation. A real good book i recommend is the animators survival guide. It show many positions and goes through walk cycles, and how to exagerate your characters to make them seem more real. Another good source is to just copy the ones you like. practice drawing like the road runner in many positions, then eventually try to draw him in your own poses. Also look up the original disney animators, they basically built the foundations of the entire animation world.

How do I get work doing voices for cartoons?

A. Getting into voiceacting is a hefty investment. Largely because you have to invest thousands of dollars in putting together a demo reel that shows your range as a voice actor. There are different types of voiceovers. Commercials are the biggest chunk. Then there are promo, narrative, foreign language, audiobook, and animation. For animation, you need to create original characters! No imitations of Simpsons, Family Guy, etc. characters. Before forking over thousands of dollars to get your reel, get a lot of training before. Good training consists of proper vocal exercises and warmup, proper diction in American standard English, breaking down a VO script into phrases, and being able to make that script come to life with your imagination and… [cont.]
