Can an Author stop their book and it's character's from becoming a victim of Fanfic?
Q. I really hate the fanfic books of Harry Potter and other great books. But as an author could I do anything so that my own books don't become victim to this? Are there no laws to protect the character's we create?

A. Penelope, if you wanted to spend the money, you could minimize (but not completely stop) fanfic based on your books. It's a clear case of copyright violation, and if the author chose to prosecute, s/he'd win. It would take a great deal of internet searching and a law firm sending letters to website owners and their service providers threatening legal action for copyright violation. Of course, some of these websites are probably hosted in other nations, where US law does not apply. The reason few authors bother to stop fanfic is that it poses no threat to the real work, either to its reputation or the future sales of existing books or the sale of new ones in the series.

what dpes the POV stand for when people write fanfic?
Q. when you read fanfic, theres this thing in the beginning before you get to the story that says in all caps the first letter of the name of the person who is telling the story, then POV. what does this stand for?

A. It means the Point Of View the text is written in.
